Racing the Storm
Matt and I hoped on the St Croix River for Cinco de Mayo. At first, we were planning on margaritas, but ended up with some beers instead. Ha which happened to be Bent Paddle, local MN brewery. Not even Mexican lol.
Had a blast paddling around the super flooded river. Was not really fast at all, plus we had a head wind most of the way. Paddled around all the flooded trees, had a few brews, and stopped off at the bridge and waterfall. That's when the dark clouds rolled in. We are about to paddle into a storm. Little lightning in the distance. Soon became more lightning, thunder, and rain. Not a ton a wind or rain. Just enough to make the rain jackets come out.
Paddled as close to the river bank edge that we could. Cutting through flooded forest sections. Trying to get as close to our take-out as possible. If things get worse we can bail and touch down on land, hike it out back to the car, only 1-2 miles left. Hammered it out, packed up, and headed home.
