Grand Portage
Packed a single backpack, sleeping system, and some food and took off for the first stop right after work on Friday. Grand Portage State Park was starting point for this adventure, which happened to be ½ mile from the United States and Canadian boarder crossing.
Thankfully the State Park shares the same parking lot as the Rest Area, that way I could sleep in my car. Woke up to the windows covered in frost on the inside and outside and a fresh light layer of snow. Prior to the sunrise I got dressed and hit the trail after my first waterfall. Had a ton of fun playing around with different setting on my camera as the sun was slowly rising.
Then I decided to make my way to 120 foot High Falls on the Pigeon River. The boardwalks had a decent hardpack snow trail which made walking on it a breeze for me. Hung out at the top some time just at Awww for the massive power, force, and flow of the waterfall. Amazing what water can do, but this was just the first of out many to be seen on the adventure.
On my way to the next destination I pulled over in a small town and drove to the frozen beach. Popped open my trunk and enjoyed my breakfast shake enjoying the views of Lake Superior.
