Searching for Lakers
Headed back to one of my favorite places in the world, the Boundary Waters Wilderness Canoe Area. This time around, Jay and I stayed for 8 nights on Duncan Lake. Matt and Jess joined for the extended Labor Day weekend, but then had to head back. Found a pretty sweet campsite that was very hammock friendly and in a great location for fishing. Landed fish right off the shore of our campsite. Found another pocket of smallmouth bass close by too. Jay and I drifted the whole lake. Well more so Jay did, I was climbing up on bluffs to take photos all the time. He legit combed the whole lake in search of these mysterious Lakers, Lake Trout. I say mysterious, because it seems like it is kind of rare to get one, which Jay landed one on our third day. Yup, just one. Out of countless hours drifting, jigging, and trolling for them. We made sure to smoke it over the fire to enjoy. Mixed weather with temps dropping to just above freezing some of the nights. Rain on and off like usual. Every night we made sure to make a super tasty meal. Overall, it was a super laid back week enjoying the views and being detached from the craziness of the cites. Just peaceful :)
