Cinematography Shorts - ROZYBOOM

Cinematography Shorts

Everyday I get more and more into cinematography. It has been a passion of mine since my skateboarding days (middle school). I have gone years in between edits, but now I want to stay on top of it and really fine tune my style and quality of videos. I picked up a GoPro Hero 5 Black, which allows me to shoot in 4K. This is going to be an ongoing collection of shorts made from my adventures, out and about, or just enjoying the little things in life.

SUPing in the BWCA - 2018

Location and Date: Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Minnesota, Labor Day Weekend - 2018

About: Well that time of year. Ya know the annual backcountry paddling adventure someplace. Thankfully, Matt is always down for a trip with me. So him and I headed up to the Boundary Waters, Minnesota for the extended weekend. I was really looking forward to this adventure, because I needed one. I've been off ever since I jacked up my neck and didn't get to do my big paddle. It really set me back, but I knew getting in the BWCA was going to turn that around! So here is a fun little short I made of our time spent in this beautiful part of the world.

Camera/Settings: GoPro Hero 5 Black. Video shot at 2K 30fps Stabilization on. Edited in Final Cut Pro X

Location and Date: Centerville Lake, Minnesota on October 14, 2017

About: It was Justin's birthday and we were taking his boat out one last wakesurfing session! Following week he was winterizing it. My buddy Jay Clementson and I were kicking around the idea of using this pole. It was one Jay uses at work and extended out to 24 feet. At first, I didn't know how we were going to attach it to the pole. I didn't have those accessories with me. We decided the Joby flexible tripod and a shit ton of tape would do the trick. Jay recorded everything you see and I edited into what you watched. Didn't flip the vertical filmed material because I like how it makes your brain figure out the angles.

Location and Date: St. Croix State Park, Minnesota - April 29, 2017.

About: Went out for a fantastic hike and paddle for my birthday. I wanted to paddle the Kettle River but was solo. So I packed up Nala (my SUP) and other river gear and hit the trail. 5.6 Miles later I made it to my launch point. Made lunch while blowing Nala up to hit the river. Hid my back back so I can pick it up later. Hit the water and took off. Nothing but class 1 and 2 rapids pretty much the whole time. Really nice to work on my SUP skills, but would like to get back with others to really work on the bigger fun stuff. Towards the end, I fell in the last rapid set and lost my camera, my Olympus TG4 camera that was on a lanyard. Snapped clean off and sunk to the bottom of the river. Totally sucks but whatever, some times gear fails and you lose stuff. Overall, I had a blast start to finish. This edit shows some of the fun I had.

Location and Date:  Willow River State Park, Wisconsin - April 15, 2017.

About: As you might know I am a total sucker for moving water and waterfalls. Well Willow River has all of that! One section is amazing with one waterfall after another. Super nice park and I am glad I finally made it over to check it out.

Camera/Settings: GoPro Hero 5 Black shot in 4K at 30fps. Edited in Final Cut Pro X. Time lapse were all video instead of pictures too.

Location and Date: Tettegouche State Park, Minnesota - March 25, 2017 .

About: Wanted to showcase another one of my favorite parks Minnesota has to offer. Just love the waterfalls, rapids, and crazy ice formations. Always a fantastic park to hike around and play down by the water.

Camera/Settings: GoPro Hero 5 Black shot in 4K at 30fps. Edited in Final Cut Pro X. Kind of wish I shot some clips in higher fps to get some better slow motion stuff. Next time :)

Location and Date: Ham Lake Park, Ham Lake, Minnesota - March 12, 2017.

About: Testing out a video time lapse of the snow falling. This lead me into grabbing my Karma Grip for a spin around my Jeep, down the dock, and in the Cattails for a fun little edit. First attempt filming in 4K.

Camera/Settings: GoPro Hero 5 Black shot in 4K at 30fps. Edited in Final Cut Pro X. Snow time lapse was 60 minutes of continuous recording which in post production I increased the speed making the clip 15:18 seconds long to mock a time lapse. Pretty please with how it turned out! Wanted to compare that style to photo time lapse. Worked really well and paired up well with additional footage I shot in 4K.

Location and Date: Temperance River State Park, Minnesota - March 4, 2017.

About: Wanted to make a short video for some time. This was my first real focus on putting together a short compared to just my test shoot at the Mississippi River hike. I headed up Temperance River State Park for a fun day hiking and filming on of my favorite parks in Minnesota. This also gives ya a peek into what it's like to go hiking with me :)

Camera/Settings: GoPro Hero 5 Black utilizing the Karma Grip for half of it. Shot in 1080P at 120fpc since I knew I wanted some slow motion clips. See More: at Come Take a Hike With Me in my mini adventure

Location and Date: Shadow Falls Park on the East bank of the Mississippi River, Minnesota - January 23, 2017.

About: First time with my new GoPro and Karma grip. Nice little day hike down by the Mississippi River with a 35-40lb pack, frozen waterfalls, kettlebell session, and just enjoying nature. Wanted to see what this setup was all about.

Camera/Settings: GoPro Hero 5 Black. Shot in 1080P, utilizing Karma Grip, and Edited in Final Cut Pro X. Still working out the details of video work now of days.
